Company History

Carey pioneered the chauffeured services industry and has set a long and historical precedent as the leader in worldwide chauffeured services. Since 1921, we have tirelessly sought to make innovations and provide service that accommodates all of our clients' unique needs.

Our history of important events, innovations and achievements includes:

  • Founder J.P. Carey established the first limousine company
  • Devised the first vehicle air conditioning system
  • Was the first chauffeured services company to accept credit cards
  • Instituted the first and only national/international network able to provide a consistently "controlled' standard of service. This network has grown into the Carey System, the industry's only global franchise system of affiliates and subsidiaries
  • Instituted first toll-free reservations center
  • Was the first to offer cellular phone service throughout its fleet
  • Built the first extended sedan - the Carey Car - to increase legroom and rear seat comfort
  • Created the first Mobile Operations Center for on-site coordination of large meetings and corporate events transportation
  • Offered the industry's first Meet & Greet service at major airports
  • Was the first to adopt a chauffeur certification program throughout its entire franchise system
  • Launched the industry's first e-Reservation Center to give travel arrangers and passengers the ease and convenience of Web-based self-service
