CAREY SAN FRANCISCO SHIFTS ITS OPERATIONS TO CARBONNEUTRAL®

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 22, 2008:

Just as Earth Day began in San Francisco in 1970, Carey International, Inc. has chosen Earth Day and Carey San Francisco to announce that the company is expanding its partnership with The CarbonNeutral Company into North America.

"All companies have environmental impacts and the chauffeured transportation industry's heavy reliance on fossil fuels certainly has a greater impact than others," said Carey's President and CEO Gary Kessler in making the announcement. "Carey, as a leader in chauffeured transportation, has a responsibility to approach the subject of environmental conservation with careful consideration, transparency, and deliberate action. We began working with The CarbonNeutral Company in 2006, applying their approach to environmental mitigation to the operations of Carey's United Kingdom fleet. After nearly two years of positive effect, Carey International, Inc., is expanding its partnership with The CarbonNeutral Company to its North American operations, starting with Carey San Francisco. For Carey, environmental responsibility is more than adding a few hybrid vehicles to our fleet; it is a total, sustainable solution that will be represented by completely reducing Carey's carbon footprint to net zero, rather than a bullet point on a brochure."

Over the past month, The CarbonNeutral Company has helped Carey San Francisco measure and reduce their CO2 emissions from vehicle operations, electricity use, business travel, employee commuting and landfill waste. To achieve CarbonNeutral® status the carbon footprint is neutralized to net zero through balancing the emissions in three global projects that produce emissions savings equal to those Carey San Francisco produces. As a result of that process, Carey San Francisco (as well as Carey UK) now has permission to display the CarbonNeutral® trademark, signifying that:

  1. Their CO2 emissions have been independently monitored
  2. One hundred percent (100%) of their emissions have been reduced to net zero through a mix of internal and external carbon-reduction efforts
